Hamlet

For Sean Holmes’ production of Hamlet at Shakespeare’s Globe, the brief was to create an image that appears at first glance to be traditional, but on closer inspection is not. The three supporting characters are classically statuesque, while Hamlet is lounging in the foreground — teacup in hand and a sardonic look on his face. The four actors were shot individually by Helen Maybanks, with the final composition created in Photoshop. Various techniques and filters were used to create the impression of an oil painting.
